Lyle Schultz Obituary

Lyle F. Schultz, 85, of Embden, ND passed away at Sanford Medical Center on March 10, 2025.  Lyle was born on June 23, 1939, in Fargo ND, to Carl and Caroline (Zick) Schultz.  He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church, Embden.  Lyle graduated in 1957 from Chaffee High School.  On June 8, 1963, he married the love of his life, Eileen Quisberg.  Together for over 60 years, they farmed and raised their three children, east of Embden.

Lyle was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church, 4-Corners Wildlife Club, Embden Community Club, and Four Corners Seniors.  He served on the boards of Gill Township, Chaffee School, Farmers Union Oil Company of Embden and was part owner with friends in Embden Grain Co., which he helped build to what would become “The biggest little elevator in the region”. 

Lyle started farming in 1957.  In 1994, his son, Ryan joined him, then in 2016 his grandson Kyle joined the partnership.  In 2019, Lyle stepped away from the farm and moved to Fargo, passing his legacy on to his son and grandson.  Lyle continued to be “in charge” making sure things were done right until his passing.  Although farming was his love; in his younger years, he worked at Jensen Bros. Construction and in the winter at McDonald Livestock in West Fargo.  

Lyle’s life revolved around his family whether they were farming, hunting, or fishing.  He especially enjoyed family trips to Medora, Yellowstone, the Black Hills, Disney World, and several trips to Seattle, WA to visit family. He enjoyed summer fishing trips, especially to Lake Kisseynew in Flin Flon, Manitoba with the neighbors and family. He also enjoyed fall hunting trips going after antelope, deer, bear, and elk along with a good red fox chase during the winter.  

Lyle leaves behind his wife Eileen, of 63 years, three children, seven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Kristi (Jamie) Schreiner of Fargo, ND, and their children, Nicholas of Belgrade, MT and Courtney of Fargo, ND; Karla Gabel of Fargo, ND, and her children Leah (Jordan) Stenson (Theodore, Cora and Harrison) of Green Bay, WI; Erin (Tyler) Plante (Reed and Randi) of Christine, ND; Amber (Tanner) Kempel (Hattie) of Stirum, ND; Ryan (Kristi) Schultz of Embden, ND and their children Cody (Kendra) Schultz (Nolan and Luka) of Casselton, ND; Kyle (Larissa) Schultz (Caroline, Ty, Ryder, and Lyla) of Embden, ND. Brothers Carlie, Seattle, WA; Stan (Bev), Stanwood, WA; Bob (Debbie) Fargo, ND; Dan, Fargo, ND; brother-in-law LeRoy Pfingsten, Casselton, ND; sisters-in-law Diane (Gene) Walton, Detroit Lakes, MN; Valerie (Lonnie) Scharbow, Enderlin, ND; and 14 nieces and nephews. Along with numerous great and great-great nieces and nephews. 

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents Carl and Caroline Schultz, sisters-in-law Bonnie Schultz, Joann Schultz, and Arlis Pfingsten; a niece, Darcy Walton and nephew, Brady Schultz; in addition to his lifelong hired man, Walter Dewerff.

A service to remember and celebrate his life will be held Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at 11:00am, with a period of visitation one hour prior, at St. John Lutheran Church in Embden, ND. A formal visitation will be held the evening prior, Monday, March 17, 2025, from 6:00pm-7:00pm. with a prayer service at 7:00pm, at West Funeral Home in Casselton, ND. Burial will take place following services Tuesday at St. John Cemetery of rural Embden.
