Luana Freedland

Luana C. Freedland, 87, of Harwood, ND, passed away Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at Heather’s House in Fargo.

Luana Camille Freedland was born June 11, 1939, in Hatton, ND. She graduated from Hatton High School in 1957 and moved to Fargo-Moorhead where she attended Concordia College and Interstate Business College. Luana worked as a secretary at St. Marks church and for the American Cancer Society. She married Wayne Freedland at St. John Lutheran Church in Hatton, ND on November 4, 1967.

Luana devoted herself to her family and embraced the unique responsibilities that came with being a farm wife — roles different from her husband’s but every bit as essential to the success of their operation. She supported the daily work on the farm and managed the restaurant inside the convenience store the family owned in Harwood, ND. After raising her family she worked part time at Sheyenne Gardens, Children’s Castle, and Stabo Scandinavian Imports before retiring. She loved spending time with her family, gardening, doing puzzles, and going to Bison football games with her husband, Wayne.

Luana is survived by her two children, Paul Freedland and Pam Freedland.

Proceeding her in death are her parents, Oscar and Margit (Olson) Engebretson; her stepsister, Barbara (Engebretson) Hovde; and husband, Wayne Freedland.

Visitation: an hour before the funeral.

Funeral: 2 pm Friday, September 4, 2026, at West Funeral Home in West Fargo.

Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Harwood, ND.
