Leroy Dean Hill, of Amenia, North Dakota, passed away on April 11, 2026.
He was born on April 24, 1945, in Duluth, Minnesota.
Leroy lived a life defined by resilience and deep love for those around him. He spent his life as a long-haul owner-operator truck driver, proudly driving over a million miles without a single accident—which spoke to his skill, focus, and strong work ethic.
He was equally proud of his years of sobriety, a journey that shaped much of his life and relationships. Some of his closest and most meaningful friendships were formed through Alcoholics Anonymous, where he found strength, support, and purpose in walking alongside others on the same path.
Leroy’s strong faith in God was the foundation of his life—it guided him and drove the way he lived, the choices he made, and the way he loved others. At home, Leroy had a soft spot for animals and shared a special bond with his beloved cats, Lucy—affectionately known as “the little girl in a cat suit”—and Hootie.
Even through illness, Leroy remained positive and steadfast, an example of quiet strength to those around him. He and his wife Anne shared a deeply intimate journey together. Through round-the-clock caregiving, their bond grew even stronger, marked by devotion, tenderness, and unwavering commitment—a reflection of the love they shared throughout their 38 years of marriage.
He is survived by his wife Anne Hill; the mother of his children, Teresa Lucas; his children, Rebecca (Russell) Penner, William Hill, Aaron Hill, Angela Kolden, and Kimberly (Paul) Kranz; and his grandchildren, William (Ashley) Penner, India (Roberto) Flores, Olivia (Andrew) Campbell, Evangelyn Hill, Ariana Hill, Alexander Hill, Elias Hill, Jessica (Josh) Johnson, and Joseph Kolden, Brother Gene (Shereen) Hill and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Myrna Hill; his brother, Richard Hill; his sister, Lois Maki; his nephew, Jonathan Maki; daughter in law, Kathryn Hill and Todd Steffes.
A funeral service will be held at 4:00 p.m. on April 24, 2026, at West Funeral Home in Casselton, North Dakota, with a visitation beginning at 3:00 p.m. Food and fellowship will follow the service.
