Leon Roesler Obituary

Leon A. Roesler, 85, of Leonard, North Dakota, passed away at his home on Thursday, April 23, 2026.

Leon was born on August 15, 1940, on the family farm in Leonard to Gordon and Ethel (Friese) Roesler. He attended rural schools in Cass County and graduated from Leonard High School in 1958. He continued his education at NDSCS in Wahpeton.

On June 9, 1962, Leon married Carol Solfield of Cooperstown. Together they made their home in Fargo, where Leon worked for the Soil Conservation Service. In 1965, they returned to Leonard and began the farming life that Leon cherished so deeply. He took great pride in his land, always working to improve the farm and build a strong future for his family.

Leon and Carol raised two sons, Trent (Deb) Roesler of Leonard and Troy (Nikki) Roesler of Casselton. His life was further enriched by his grandchildren: Kathrin (Jeff) Grady, Kamie (Ryder) Blair, Josh (Jordyn) Roesler, Jessie Roesler, Jacob (Hope) Roesler, and Jason (Alissa) Roesler; and his great-grandchildren: Owen, Ethan, Weston, and Merritt Grady; A.J. Blair; and Chrissa, Lowe, Cato, and River Roesler. He found immense joy in time spent with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren always finding time to attend ball games, plays and church programs.

One of his greatest joys was seeing his sons and now his grandsons continue his passion of farming. He would still make visits to the farm throughout the year to check on how things were going, but it was more than just that. In 2025, he spent many hours tilling the ground for his grandsons, completing his 60th harvest.

A dedicated member of his community, Leon served on the Bethel Church Board, the Water Management Board, and was a proud member of the Leonard Lions Club for more than 50 years.

Leon and Carol shared a love of travel and were grateful to visit all 50 states together. They also spent 20 winters in Arizona creating many cherished memories along the way. He was fortunate to spend much of that time with his four siblings, Marilyn, Janette, Bonnie and Dale along with their spouses.

Leon will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, as well as a hardworking farmer who found his greatest happiness in the land he tended and the family he loved.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol. His two sons, six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, along with four siblings and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Ethel, sisters-in-law Marilyn Roesler, Janice Solfield and Dorothy Lura; brothers-in-law Arlen Blumer, James Lura, Bernard Solfield and Gerald Lindell; and granddaughter Jordan Roesler.
