Kenneth Overton

Kenneth Overton, 57, Horace, ND died on Friday, September 6, 2024 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND after a long illness.

Kenneth Dale Overton was born July 24, 1967 in Evansville, IN to Dale and Linda (DeWig) Overton. He graduated from Castle High School in Newburgh, IN and continued his college education to be a game warden and then for firefighting. He worked a short time as a firefighter in Carmel, IN. His career path changed and he worked as a union rep for the Indiana Labor Union for 30 years and retired at the age of 50. Kenny met the love of his life, Mary Rud over a connection through a first responders post. He moved to Horace in 2019 and has been a blessing to Mary ever since.

He was all about love for his family and friends. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, grilling and gardening. While in Indiana, he loved to hunt for Morel Mushrooms and was active in the Bethel Temple Church Men’s Ministry for many years.

Kenny is survived by his significant other, Mary; three children, Kiersten Overton, Ryne Overton, and Lindsey Overton; two grandchildren, Gracie and James; father, Dale (Debbie) Overton; mother, Linda Wheeler; brother, Jeremy (Sonja) Busing; grandmother, Polly DeWig; uncle, Steve DeWig; aunt Susie Hale; step children, Darren Spicer and Megan Rud and her son, Isaiah; step granddaughter who he raised as a daughter, Kinsleigh; along with three special friends, Erica Bryant, Teddy Duneghy and Jason Newman; along with many cousins, nieces, nephews and his loyal goldendoodle Veda.

He was preceded in death his step dad, Doyle Wheeler; aunt Janice; several grandparents and one of his best friends John Newman.

Private family service will be held at a later date.
