Ken Hansen

Ken Hansen, 84, of West Fargo passed away peacefully at Bethany on 42nd in Fargo on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.

Kenneth M. Hansen was born on May 13, 1940 in Valley City, ND to Alfred & Gertrude (Hofland) Hansen and raised in Sanborn, ND. He graduated from Sanborn High School. Ken joined the Army on January 14, 1960, and was honorably discharged on January 10, 1963.

On April 19, 1964, he was united in marriage to Mary Jean Grant in Valley City and was employed by the Jamestown police department. In 1969 they moved to West Fargo. In August of 1969 he began working for the Cass County Sheriff’s Department. In 1971, Ken began working for the West Fargo Police Department. He was appointed Assistant Police Chief in 1973 and Police Chief from 1975 to 1994, when he retired.

Ken enjoyed wood carving and spent many hours in his garage whittling and socializing with neighbors. Ken’s grandkids were his pride and joy. Ken and Jeanie’s kitchen table was the central hub for laughter and great stories. Ken was a member of the Eagles, the AMVETS and NDPOA.

He is survived by his sons Terry (Suzi) & Tony (Brenda) both of West Fargo; grandchildren Brandon, Sofia (Jake), Emily, Joseph, Ryan, Jamie (Tanya) and Tanner; siblings Almira Klein, Albert Hansen and many nieces and nephews.

Ken was preceded in death by his wife Mary Jean Hansen and parents Alfred & Gertrude Hansen.

Visitation: Saturday, January 11, 2025 from 9:00 AM until 10:00 AM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Memorial Service: Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 10:00 AM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Burial: Spring of 2025 at Memory Gardens of Valley City, Valley City, ND.
