Kay E. McFarland Olson, 72, of West Fargo, passed away Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo.

Kay E. McFarland Olson was born July 2, 1952, in Lisbon, ND, the daughter of Raymond and Olivia (Meinhardt) McFarland.  She attended school in Lisbon and Gwinner and earned her GED.  Kay married Daniel Harvey on November 13, 1973 and were the parents of two children:  Danyeal and Scott.  She later was united in marriage to Allen Olson, on April 8, 1996, in Tucumcari, NM. 

The couple moved to Sioux Falls, SD.  There Kay worked various jobs. She enjoyed spending time with Allen going out to dinner, playing bingo and visiting with family and friends.   Allen passed away March 1, 2012, in Sioux Falls. Kay remained there until moving to Fargo in the spring of 2015.  That summer Kay was diagnosed with Vascular Dementia and mixed Alzheimer’s Disease. She then resided at Maple View in Fargo for nine years, until moving in September of 2024, to Eventide Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo.  

Kay loved her family, amusements parks especially roller coasters, watching Disney movies and singing. One of her favorite old movies was The Wizard of Oz. She enjoyed dogs, cats, especially chickens, red roses and any kind of chocolate.  Kay loved to go to the beauty salon with Danyeal to get her hair washed, cut and styled, followed by a treat of hot cocoa. 

Surviving are a son:  Scott Harvey of Casper Wyoming; daughter:  Danyeal Barta of West Fargo, ND; grandchildren:  Daniel Harvey,  Mason Barta, Marshall Barta and Peyton Barta;  siblings:  Donna (Gene) Gast of Watertown, SD,  David (Linda) McFarland of Gwinner, ND,  Karen (Jim) Crider of Brainard, MN and her twin brother, Keith (Pam) McFarland of Wahpeton, ND; along with many nieces and nephews and their families. 

Preceded in death by her parents; and husband:  Allen Olson.

Visitation: An hour before the service.

Memorial Service:   Rescheduled for 2pm Saturday, December 21, 2024 at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
