Karen Lynn Steele went into the loving arms of the Lord on April 25, 2026, at 75 years of age. She was born in Ft. Collins, Colorado and later moved to Tucson, Arizona with her family. She attended Tucson High School where she met her husband, Bruce. They were married in Tucson on June 18, 1972.
The Presbyterian Church was central to her life. Quietly relying on her Christian faith, she mentored many young women who lovingly referred to her as “Mom.”
Karen enjoyed being part of the quilting and embroidery communities. While stationed with her husband, she worked tirelessly as a volunteer in Family Support Services helping military families adjust with their resettlements. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Technology from Illinois State University at Carbondale.
Surviving family members are husband, Bruce; sons, Andrew (Grandin, ND), Patrick (Moses Lake, WA), and Zachary (Fargo, ND); four grandchildren; her brother, Max Mercer (Phoenix, AZ); and sisters, Gayle Bullington (Tucson, AZ) and Carla Cummings (Minot, ND). Her parents, Gilbert and Beverly Mercer, and brother, David Mercer preceded her in death.
An informal memorial service is at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND, on May 1, 2026. Burial Services are private at the Fargo National Veterans Cemetery. Matthew 19:14 epitomizes Karen’s childlike trust and dependence in Christ. The music of Bill Gaither and Guy Penrod gave her much comfort.
In lieu of flowers, please give a gift to the Shriner’s Children’s Hospital.
Memorial Service: Friday, May 1, 2026, at 1PM, at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND, with visitation one hour before the service.
