Karen Lee Schur, 80, Fargo, died on July 23, 2020, at New Perspective Nursing Home after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Karen was born on March 18, 1940 to Dale and Ella Hull in Erie, ND. She was the oldest of three daughters. She was raised and attended school in Ayr, ND. As a child, she loved school and even played point guard on the girls basketball team despite barely being 5 feet tall. She attended Interstate Business College.
She met Kenneth Eugene Schur at Johnson‘s barn dance and they were married April 24, 1959. They made their home in Fargo and raise three daughters. They enjoyed summers on Turtle Lake and later Maud Lake. They wintered in Mesa, AZ and later Apache Junction, AZ. She love to decorate and truly had a gift doing so. She loved to entertain for holidays, parties, and Gourmet Club. She would set her table with notecards where everything would be placed and always pulled off a terrific ‘party’! In Arizona, she was famous for starting ‘Friday Friends’, a happy hour get together at the clubhouse. She enjoyed being part of the Red Hat Society. She was a good friend to many.
She was such an amazing mother and grandmother. She made birthdays and Christmases so special. She was known for her Christmas peanut butter logs and coconut balls. She always made sure the grandkids had a ‘party’ for every occasion with special children’s champagne toasts, hats, and decorations. She would surprise her grandchildren and daughters for special occasions by flying to the event. She didn’t do anything or go anywhere without her red lipstick on. Her style and fashion were always impeccable, so much so she was referred to by the grandkids as ‘Glitzy G’ma’. She will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Ken; three daughters, Starla Schur-Lynn (Dion) of Wilsonville, OR, Stacey Bergquist (John) of Detroit Lakes, MN, Sheila Danielson (Steve) of Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, Deon Schur (Eran) of St. Helens, OR, Mychal Jo Lynn (Sean) of Fargo, ND, Jake Bergquist of Denver, CO, Ben Bergquist (Kendra) of Fargo, ND, Breanne Murchie (Tom) of Chicago, IL, Bryce Murchie of Fargo, ND, Blake Murchie of Fargo, ND and 5 great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Ella Hull, her sisters Linda Meyers and Connie Woodbury.
