June Mayer, 92, Casselton, North Dakota, passed away with her daughter at her side on October 28, 2024, in Laughlin, Nevada.
June was born June 29, 1932, on the family farm in Petersville Township in Kidder County, ND, north of Pettibone, ND, the daughter of Jacob and Emma (Gruebele) Hertel.
June attended country school and helped with chores on the family farm. At an early age, she moved to Jamestown, ND to enter the work force as a waitress at a local restaurant. She soon met her future husband to be, Calvin Mayer. June and Calvin were married on September 18, 1952. At this time, June settled in as a homemaker, housewife, and mother as they made their home in Jamestown, ND. June will always be remembered by her family as a hard worker, a great cook and a great mother. Raising her four children was her life.
June and Calvin lived in Jamestown, ND before they moved to Ashley, ND where they owned and operated a grocery store for about five years before making their last move to their final home in Casselton, ND.
June is survived by her daughter, Kathy Mayer, Laughlin, Nevada; two sons, David Mayer, Casselton, ND and Tim Mayer, Casselton, ND; three grandchildren, Desiree (Joe) Schweigert, Fargo, ND, Boe Mayer, Fargo, ND and Tyler Mayer (fiancée Natasha), Rochester, MN; eight great-grandchildren, Lyla, Max, Mya, Della, and Nora Joe, Fargo, ND, Remmington and Everly, West Fargo, ND, and Tallulah, Rochester, MN.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Emma Hertel, seven sisters, Emma, Katie, Freida, Rose, Esther, Lorraine, and Alvina, three brothers, William, Albert and Edward, husband Calvin and son Terry.
A private family burial will be held at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Jamestown, ND next to her husband and son. Cards may be sent to the Mayer Family in care of West Funeral Home, Box 428, Casselton, ND 58012.
