June Larson, 81, of Moorhead, MN passed away on Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.
June Deve Stompro was born on May 28, 1943 to Arnold and Gladys (Peters) Stompro. She grew up in Casselton, ND where she was baptized and active in Casselton Moravian Church. She graduated from Casselton High School in 1961. Afterwards, she attended Valley City State University, majoring in elementary education, graduating after three years and three summers.
After college, she accepted a teaching position in Fertile, MN where she loved teaching first grade. While living in Fertile, she met Roger Larson and after dating over a year they were married on June 18, 1968. A couple years later they started a family and bought a farm west of Beltrami, MN and June transitioned to mom—raising three kids, running a household, cooking noon meals for dad and hired men, and delivered meals during harvest. She was active in Trinity Lutheran Church in Beltrami with Ladies Aid, Circle, and teaching Sunday School.
After Roger’s passing in 1992, June started the next chapter of her life and moved to Moorhead, MN in 1994. While in Moorhead, she worked for Friendship, Inc. until she retired in 2005. In 2024, she moved to River Pointe Assisted Living where she met many people and made new friends.
One of June’s greatest joys was reading. We did the math with her and came up with a conservative estimate of over 11,000 novels read. June also loved her time with her children and grandchildren. She was always ready to visit, play a game of gin rummy, do mad libs or watch a movie. During these family times, we were often blessed to hear her explosive legendary laugh. June was caring, understanding, and patient. She has always been the glue that kept her family close.
June is survived by three children, Dawn (Brad) Larson-Spindler, Browerville, MN, Royal (Nicole) Larson, Windom, MN, and Eric (Angela) Larson, Moorhead, MN; five grandchildren, Dora, Blaise, Mya, Anna, and Ethan Larson; a brother, Richard Stompro, Casselton, ND; Roger’s siblings and their spouses; 19 nieces and nephews; and a huge supportive extended family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and special relatives Stella Berhow, Great-Aunt Esther Lebus, Florence & Percy Treiglaff, and Emily & Harry Thronson.
