June Hartwig

June Hartwig, 95, of West Fargo, formerly of Edgeley, ND passed away Monday, April 24, 2023, at Sheyenne Crossings, West Fargo under the care of Red River Hospice.

June was born June 1, 1927, to John and Florence (Withnell) Carlson in Edgeley, ND. She grew up with 3 sisters and 1 brother during the depression years. Times were difficult but she always talked about her childhood as a happy one.  June attended Edgeley Public School where she was active in Glee Club, Pep Squad, Music, Band and Junior/Senior plays. She graduated from high school in 1945.

She went on to work at several places in Edgeley including the creamery, grocery store and movie theatre. The movie theatre is where she met Laurie Hartwig.  They were married on November 19, 1950, and lived on the family farm East of Edgeley where they raised their 4 children.

June was active at Zion Lutheran Church, Edgette Homemakers, Golden Glen 4-H, Bowling, Vacation Bible School, Alumni Association and anything that involved decorating for an occasion or a party. June was known for her crafting, sewing, decorating and party planning. She loved hosting the homemaker parties and decorating her house and church for Christmas and Easter. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed many of her children’s clothes and taught her daughters to sew.

June loved living on the farm and did so until 2010. After having a stroke, she moved to Fargo and lived the rest of her life.  June was a strong-willed and independent woman until her last breath!

She was preceded into death by her parents, husband, 3 sisters and 1 brother.

She is survived by her children, Laurel (Terry) Barr, Lonnie (Cindy) Hartwig, Julie (Rory) White, and Jodi (John) Gawf. Seven grandchildren, Cody, Amy, Jenna, Joshua, Zachary, Jenny and Jason, 6 great grandchildren – Jonah, Harvey, Meadow, Evelyn, Lily and Max. Nothing brought a bigger smile to her face than her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and 2 sisters -in-law.

Funeral:  1 pm, Saturday, April 29, 2023, Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Edgeley, ND.

Visitation:  An hour before the service.

Interment:  Mount Hope Cemetery, Edgeley.
