A Celebration of Life Ceremony for John KaKayGeesick, Sr. will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lake Township Hall in Warroad, MN.

John KaKayGeesick, 72, of Moorhead, MN passed away on Thursday, September 26, 2024, at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND after his battle with cancer.

John Richard KaKayGeesick, Sr. was born on November 4, 1951 to Robert and Florence (Cobiness) KaKayGeesick in Warroad, MN. On September 19, 1975, he was united in marriage to Donna Mae Walz of Baudette, MN. John and Donna raised four children Rachel, John Jr., Angela, and Michael. John and Donna moved to Moorhead later in life. John and Donna divorced but, remained good friends.

John, was a Native American Artist and worked at Concordia College-Moorhead in Food Services. John valued his heritage and culture as a Native American. He took pride in teaching others of his culture and his skills with watercolor painting. John loved working at Concordia College as he valued his co-workers and the friendships that became a family. John, loved being by the water and visiting Warroad and Lake Mille Lacs where one could find him praying to The Creator, having a cup of coffee, and enjoying the sunrise. He will be remembered for his love of his family, smile, sense of humor, his love for the Minnesota Vikings which one could expect a good conversation and sharing a Bud Light.   

John is survived by his children Rachel (Chris) Johnson, John KaKayGeesick Jr. (Amber Carlson), Angela KaKayGeesick (Justen Ritter), Michael (Lisa) KaKayGeesick; and his 10 grandchildren Andrew Johnson, Alexis (Tristen) McDonald, Raven KaKayGeesick, Jasmine Ritter, Lydia Hart, Kheldon Ritter, Delilah KaKayGeesick, Abraham KaKayGeesick and Harper KaKayGeesick; and his great-grandson Bennet McDonald. He is survived by his siblings Karen (Dan) Dethmers, Donald KaKayGeesick and his nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends.

John was preceded in death by his ex-wife where they still shared a closed bond, Donna Walz, parents Robert and Florence KaKayGeesick; brothers Robert, Kenny, Kelly KaKayGeesick; and sister Martha; cousins, other relatives and friends.
