John V. Engbrecht, age 84, of Bullhead City, AZ, died Thursday, February 25, 2021 in an Arizona health care facility.
He was born on September 25, l936 in Fessenden, ND, to Ileta (Sundel) and Floyd W. Engbrecht. The family lived in various towns in ND, including Carson, New England , Jamestown, and Fessenden. He graduated from Jamestown High School in 1954 and graduated from Jamestown College in 1958 with a BS degree in Mathematics and a major in Physical Education. He received his master’s degree from NDSU in 1971.
John was united in marriage to Betty Jeane Roesler on August 3, 1957 at Jamestown. He taught for one year in McClusky, ND, before moving to West Fargo where he taught for 31 years. John was the Basketball coach at West Fargo the last year they were Class B, and also the first year when WF went to Class A.
John was an athlete and enjoyed many sports. At Jamestown College he lettered thirteen times in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track. He especially enjoyed playing golf and played with the Red River Seniors for many years. He played at Maple River Golf club rain or shine almost every day.
John was a charter member of Flame of Faith UMC in West Fargo. More recently he was a member of Hope UMC in Bullhead City, Arizona.
He is survived by his son Bruce (Becky), and two granddaughters, Amber Richards and Kayla Warner along with great grandson Easton.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Floyd, wife Betty and his two sons, John Mark and Gary.
Funeral Service: 11 AM April 13, 2021 in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, with Visitation held one hour prior to his service.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, ND
