James Linke, 88, rural Leonard, ND, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 8, 2024 at Bethany on University in Fargo, ND.
Jim was born June 23, 1936 in Fargo, ND to Gordon and Grace Linke. He grew up on the family farm and attended country school graduating from Chaffee High School. He farmed with his dad until Gordon retired at which time he continued raising crops, cattle and hogs. Jim married Donna Gillespie in 1961. They made their home near Leonard on the Linke farm. Over the years of farming, Jim and Garry Greuel helped each other with their livestock, crops and other farming duties. Upon retiring, Jim helped Brad Koetz who rented their land. Jim was also known in the area as a talented welder and could often be found building or fixing things.
Jim was always willing to help a neighbor. He enjoyed morning coffee at the Chaffee Café and visiting with his friends. He loved farm life, mowing his lawn and the family dog. He was a lifelong member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, a member of the Chaffee Lions and served on the township board as well.
He leaves behind a son, Jeff; brother, Murle Linke; along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna and sister-in-law, Elaine Linke.
Funeral: Friday, Dec. 13, 2024 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Leonard with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: Watson Cemetery, rural Leonard.
