Jeanne Watson, 97, of Harwood, North Dakota passed away peacefully on May 31, 2025, at Sanford Hospital in Fargo, North Dakota with her family by her side.
Jeanne Muriel Henrickson was born on November 18, 1927, in Steele County, North Dakota, to Bernhard “Bennie” and Mabel Henrickson. She attended Greenview #1 School in Steele County and graduated from Finley High School in 1945. She went on to earn her teaching certificate from Mayville State Teacher’s College. On September 10, 1950, Jeanne married John “Jay” Watson in East Grand Forks, Minnesota. They were blessed with two children, Richard “Dick” and Rhonda. Jeanne and her family lived in various towns in North Dakota throughout the years, including Lakota, Edmore, Finley, West Fargo, and Fargo.
Over the years, Jeanne was employed as a teacher at various one-room country schools, Horace Elementary, and St. Anthony of Padua School in Fargo. She then worked in retail at deLendrecie’s Department Store for sixteen years until her retirement in 1990. Following her retirement, Jeanne stayed busy well into her later years working part-time at T.J. Maxx and the Fargodome.
Jeanne was an exceptionally strong, independent woman who rarely complained. She was an incredibly hard worker with a great sense of humor. Jeanne had a gift for baking, and she was well known for her delicious pizzelles, assorted cookies, and lefse. She also enjoyed reading, as well as tending to her flowers and tomato plants. Jeanne spent many years enjoying time at the lake with her family. Her most cherished time was spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jeanne is survived by her son, Dick Watson, of Harwood; granddaughter, Samantha (Grant) Christian, of Harwood; grandsons, Chad (Erin) Walock, of Fargo, and Ben (Amanda) Walock, of Horace; and great-grandchildren, Camden and Elsie Christian, Michael Walock, Rylee Julson, and Luna Walock. Also surviving Jeanne are her special golden retriever friend, Willow, and the many friends she made during her time living at Royal Court Apartments. Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, Bennie and Mabel Henrickson; brother, Vernon Henrickson; husband, John Watson; daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Shane Walock; and daughter-in-law, Laurel Watson.
Visitation: Thursday, June 5, 2025 from 6:00 PM until 7:00 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.
Funeral: Friday, June 6, 2025 at 2:00 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.
Interment: At a later date by family at Sheyenne Valley Cemetery, Finley, ND.
