Jeanne Rice Obituary

Jeanne L. (Johnson) Rice, 97, St. Anthony, MN, formerly of Tower City and Fargo, ND, passed away on Friday, March 1, 2024, in the St. Anthony Health Center.

Jeanne was born on October 28, 1926, in Buffalo, ND, to Allen and Florence (Still) Johnson.  Jeanne lived on a farm near Buffalo, attended grade school at a country school, and graduated from Buffalo High School in 1944.  She attended NDAC (now NDSU) for one year in 1944-45.

She married the love of her life, Duane Rice, on July 17, 1945, in the Buffalo Lutheran Church.  Jeanne traveled with Duane as he continued his service in the U.S. Navy, until the end of World War II. They were married for 69 years when Duane passed away in 2015.

Jeanne and Duane moved to Fargo after the war, while Duane finished his college degree, and Jeanne worked at Herbst Department Store.  They then moved to Tower City in 1947, where they farmed and owned a lumberyard, and where they raised three children, Sally, Steven, and Bradley.  Jeanne worked at the “Tower View Cafe” for many years.  They moved to Fargo in 2002, and to St. Anthony, MN, in 2015.

Jeanne loved visits from her family.  Throughout her life she hosted many holidays and family gatherings, where she treated her family to her delicious baked goods.  Her family has many loving memories of her great cinnamon rolls, caramel rolls, breads, pies, cookies and bars.

Jeanne is survived by her daughter, Sally Ranalli of Oxford NJ, and her sons Steven (Kay Anderson) of Wentworth SD, and Bradley (Georgia) of New Brighton MN; eight grandchildren, Gianna (Chris) DeHart, Marcus (Hope) Ranalli, Eric (Jessica) Rice, Dustin (Heather) Rice, Jeremy (Rachel) Rice, Joel (Jolene) Rice, Laura Rice, and Lana Rice; and twelve great-grandchildren, Hennessy, Jackson and Harper Rice, Olivia Rice, Avery and Morgan DeHart, Ashton and Greyson Ranalli, Keaton and Gracie Rice, and Aria and Beckett Rice.  Jeanne is also survived by her brother, Doug (Shirley) Johnson, of Cheyenne WY, and many nieces and nephews.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Duane, her son-in-law Anz Ranalli, her daughter-in-law Kathy Rice, her sisters Geralene and Betty, and her brother Leo.

Services are pending and will be announced at a future date.  Burial in Greenwood Cemetery, Tower City, ND.
