Jean Morris Obituary

Jean Annette (Gyldenvand) Morris, age 89, passed away on January 2, 2026, with loved ones by her side at her daughter’s home in West Fargo, North Dakota.

Jean was born on December 15, 1936, in Fort Ransom, North Dakota, to Sverre and Frances (Kopp) Gyldenvand. She grew up in Fort Ransom and attended country school before graduating from Enderlin High School in 1954. Her early years laid the foundation for a life marked by generosity, warmth, and an unwavering devotion to her family.

Jean was the most amazing and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend. She gave of herself freely and without hesitation, always putting the needs of her children, grandchildren, and loved ones ahead of her own. Her selflessness was a defining trait that touched everyone, fortunate enough to know her.

Family was the heart of Jean’s world. She was endlessly proud and always cheering on her children and grandchildren. Her unwavering encouragement and unconditional love will be remembered forever.

A woman of simple joys and spirited fun, Jean’s favorite pastime was playing bingo and enjoying a glass of beer on ice. She also enjoyed being “The Champ” at whist, playing Yahtzee and cards with her sisters and especially beating her grandkids at Kings in the Corner! She was also known as “The Commissioner” of the weekly NFL Football Pick Em and enjoyed the text banter from her son, daughter-in-law, son-in-law and nephews who participated with her. In addition to these lively activities, she spent countless hours enjoying the classic courtroom drama of Perry Mason.

Every Christmas gathering was made more exciting by Grandma Jean’s tradition of adding money prizes to the games she loved to play with her family.

Jean’s presence brought comfort and laughter to those around her. Her kindness radiated through every gesture—big or small—and she will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Mary (Scott) Burke and son Mark (Heather) Morris. Jean’s legacy continues through her cherished grandchildren: Landen Heuer, Madisen Heuer, Zoe Burke, Hope Burke, Brody Morris, Devyn Morris (Chase Forthun), and Aurey Morris. She also leaves behind a sister-in-law, Donna Gyldenvand and many nephews and nieces who held a special place in her heart.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents, Sverre and Frances; Siblings, Dale, Lualyn (Lou), Sanford, Marilyn Ekre, Patty Reynolds and brother-in-law, Donald Ekre.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

A Celebration of Life to honor Jean will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2026, 4-6pm at the

West Fargo VFW, 444 Sheyenne St,  West Fargo, ND 58078
