Janice M. McLean, 86, of Wheatland, N.D., died on Tuesday, March 7, 2023, at Essentia Health in Fargo.
Janice Marjorie Buss was born on March 31, 1936, at home in Eddy County, N.D., to John and Marjorie (Lyman) Buss. They lived many places while she was growing up, and she graduated from New Rockford High School. She then attended Interstate Business College in Fargo, and worked at First State Bank in Casselton, N.D., as secretary to the bank president.
On November 27, 1965, she married John McLean at the Wheatland Methodist Church. They moved to a farm near Wheatland, where they farmed until retirement, raised “The Four ‘J’s” (Julie, Jan, Jacki, and Jennifer), and lived the rest of their lives. John passed away in 2014.
Janice had a servant’s heart; she always said yes to volunteering, no matter the task. And in her volunteering, there were always bars, bars, and bars. She was a long-time member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Casselton, where she taught Sunday School, served as Sunday School Superintendent, was active in Presbyterian Church Women, and enjoyed being the “craft ladies” with her sister, Karen each year for bible school.
She also bowled in the “Coffee Cup” league, was in charge of the youth bowling league at Casselton, and coached for various sports her girls were involved with. Janice also loved to garden—flowers were her thing!
Janice is survived by four daughters, Julie McLean, Wheatland, N.D., Jan (Robert) Bernier, North Branch, MN, Jacki McLean, Fargo, N.D., and Jennifer (Chad) Rushin, Baxter, MN; three grandchildren, Griffin Rushin, Hannah Bernier, and Brady Rushin; two brothers, Jon Buss, and Wayne (Barb) Buss; one sister, Karen (Jim) McLean; siblings-in-law, Audrey Roach, and Ken (Ilene) McLean; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her sister, Betty Muralt; and several siblings-in-law.
