James D. Hall passed away July 31, 2024, at his home in Fargo under hospice care with his beloved wife at his side.
Jim was born April 15, 1941 at Langdon, N.D. in Cavalier County. He was the second of three children born to Marian and Hazel (Weims) Hall. Jim lived his early life on the family farm and attended country school. He quit school after eighth grade but later decided that he wanted to go to NDSU even though he didn’t have a high school diploma. He passed NDSU’s entrance exam and studied electrical engineering. He graduated on the Dean’s List in 1967 even though he had little, if any, formal training in math or English. He was one smart guy!
As Jim was beginning his college career, he met the love of his life, Janice Linderman. They were married August 30, 1964, at Ada, Minnesota. They celebrated almost 61 years of married life.
Jim went on to design transmission lines and high voltage substations in both Iowa and Alaska. He later received his Registered Professional Electrical Engineer Certification. He worked for Electric Power Systems in Anchorage doing upgrades of transmissions and substations. One of his most adventurous, jobs in Alaska was the analysis of all native power plants for the Alaskan Governor’s office. After retirement, Jim worked as a consultant in Saipan and The Republic of Palau
A man of many skills, Jim was an excellent carpenter, building four homes, including their family home in Palmer and a remote cabin. He was a car enthusiast, building his own Bradley. He was a member of the Horseless Carriage of the Red River Club.
Jim is survived by his wife, Janice, his son Craig Hall (Julie) of Palmer, his brother Jon (Diane) of Austin, Texas, step-grandson Jon Jones and step great granddaughter, Amaya Jones, niece Susan Elder and nephew Donnie Gobel.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Deloris (Dee) Ulseth.
