Jack Harrom Obituary

John "Jack" Harrom, 94, Dilworth, MN passed away on Friday, May 22, 2026 at Lilac Homes in Dilworth.

John Mauritz Harrom was born May 8, 1932, in Duluth, MN to Arthur and Mary (Johnson) Harrom. He graduated from Central High School, Duluth, MN and served in the United States Air Force and Air National Guard, retiring with the rank of technical sergeant with over 31 years of service. He was an electrical design and drafting instructor at Bemidji Area and Moorhead Area Technical Colleges. He owned and operated the House of Omar canvas business.

Jack was an avid hockey fan, skater, and coach of five to eight-year-olds in Bemidji, MN. He skated with the Old Timers and was involved with the Blue Line Club. Jack was involved with the El Zagal Shrine fraternity in Fargo, ND supporting Shriners Hospitals for Children for many years. He moved to Pine Key, Florida where he became a member of the Coastguard Auxiliary. Moving to the Pensacola area, Jack was honored for his lengthy volunteer standing and coaching in the First Tee Golf program. He loved golf, hockey, motorcycles, and enjoyed a brewery craft beer on occasion.  For many years, Jack was a member of the Fiesta Barbershop Chorus, also called the “Hungry Harmoneers” (when they went to lunch after singing). He often played a humorous role in their productions. Jack was not shy.

Jack moved back to his homeland of Minnesota to be close to his children during his final years. When asked to recall one of his fondest memories, he immediately brought up canoeing/portaging in the Boundary Waters of Minnesota with his sons. He loved the outdoors and always doing “things”.

Thank you, Dad, for teaching us the importance of duct tape, returning borrowed tools in better condition than when received, and the love you have for stray animals.  When you had Air Guard duty in Duluth you taught us how to camp and fish as you covered our campsite with a parachute making it a family activity.  Thank you for taking a machete to take care of a ten-foot snake your child swore was in the basement, when in reality, it was only a 10-inch garden snake. Always the protector.  We will miss you and love you.

He is survived by children, Mike Harrom, Jeff Harrom, Paul Harrom, Julie Harrom, Cynthia Broad, Robert Broad, Annette Adams, Gregory Harrom, Lisa O’Malley and several beautiful grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Harrom, daughter, Jodi Harrom, son, Mark Harrom, and brother, Harley Harrom.

Our family would like to thank Lilac Homes of Dilworth, Minnesota for the loving care they have given our father for the past four years and to HIA Hospice for the care and compassion they have shown to Dad and to our family.

A family burial will take place at a later date in Duluth, MN.
