Ivan Opp

   Ivan F. Opp, 86, West Fargo, ND, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at Sanford Hospice House, Fargo, ND.

   Ivan Frederick Opp was born January 17, 1938, to Simon and Marie (Ketterling) Opp at Hebron, ND where he graduated from Hebron High School in 1956.  He married Linda Knudson on October 20, 1973.  He attended Dickinson State College for his bachelor’s degree and later Emporia State in Kansas for a master’s degree in library science.  He taught rural school at Comerton, MT, worked at the Dickinson Public Library, the Chester Fritz Library at the University of North Dakota, and the Stanley, North Dakota Public Schools.  At Stanley, he was the Librarian and implemented the computerized card catalogue.  He also taught art for several years.  After moving to Fargo, he substitute taught for a few years.  In his spare time, Ivan enjoyed painting western scenes, including ranching.

   Ivan is survived by his wife, Linda; children, Jennifer Pierce, Jeffrey Opp (Megan Eckman); granddaughter, Jocelyn Pierce; sister, Mary Ann Unruh; brothers, Duane Opp (Rita) and James Opp (Carolyn); and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

   He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Allen Opp (Fern), David Opp (Brenda) and sister Norma Petersen (George).

Visitation: Monday, November 4, 2024, from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at the West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Funeral Service: Monday, November 4, 2024, at 1:00 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo, ND.

Interment: Monday, November 4, 2024, at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Leonard, ND.
