Irene Sandvig

Irene Sandvig, age 83, of Fargo, ND, died Saturday, February 22, 2020 at her home.

Irene Beverly Soberg was born March 30, 1936, in Harwood, ND.  She went to grade school in Harwood, and then attended high school at Moorhead State Teacher’s College, graduating from high school in 1954.

Irene worked as a bookkeeper at Seigel’s and Cass Clay Creamery.  On October 29, 1960, Irene was united in marriage to Gary J. Sandvig in Fargo, and two children were later born to them.  They moved to Mayville, ND in 1974, and they purchased Hanson Transport, Inc, where she was the bookkeeper for 30 years.  After they retired, they moved to Fargo. 

Irene was an active member of her church circle in Mayville and was a member of the Eagles Club Auxiliary.  She enjoyed playing cards with her brothers and friends at the Senior Center, visiting with friends, and playing games such as marbles, dice, and especially Bingo!   She was so easy going, and loved to bake and cook, and that is how she acquired her nickname “Cookie”.  She truly enjoyed her grandkids, attended their sporting events whenever possible, and especially enjoyed watching them bowl.  She also loved watching Twins baseball on tv. 

She is survived by her children, Bradley (Tammy) Sandvig, West Fargo, ND,  Brenda (Michael) Stensgard, Enderlin, ND; six grandchildren John Sandvig, Thomas Sandvig, Tyler Sandvig, Stephanie (Jared) Nelson, Ethan Stensgard, Evan Stensgard; one great-grandson Grady Lee Nelson; one sister June (Donny) Marks, Twin Valley, MN; three brothers Sonny (Janie) Soberg, Fargo, Dennis (Norma Bernard) Soberg, Fargo; and Al (Nancy) Soberg , of Texas.

Irene was preceded in death by her husband Gary on January 13, 2013, her parents, four sisters, Lillian Sorlie, Delores Erickson, Barbara Meyer, Gloria Boettcher; and a brother Harry Soberg.

Visitation:  5 – 6:30 pm Thursday, February 27, 2020, with a Prayer Service held at 6:30 pm, all in West Funeral Home, West Fargo

Funeral Service:  10:30 am Friday, February 28, 2020 in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo.

Burial:  Mayville (ND) Cemetery
