Inez Woell

Inez C. Woell, 97, a lifelong resident of Casselton, ND passed away peacefully on Thursday May 8, 2025.  Inez had been residing in Fargo with her son Tom and daughter-in-law Carolyn for the past three years. 

Inez was born on August 9, 1927, to Ralph and Helen Miller.  She attended Casselton Public School then worked with her parents to keep the family dairy open and running.  She was extremely proud of her horse Polly who trained to go from house to house with the wagon to deliver the milk.

Inez married Kenneth W. Buchholz in November of 1946 and remained married until 1977 when they divorced.  Together they raised their family of 8 children. 

Inez married John J. Woell in 1980 and lived on the farm just outside of Casselton.  In 1996 Inez and John purchased what was to become the Woell Mansion.  After renovating room by room, she opened her home to many gatherings, Weddings, Graduations, Meeting and simple tours.  Baptism and Funerals were the only things that she didn’t host in the home.

Inez loved to make Afghans for her family and friends as well as crocheting name for people.  She was an avid Gardner and loved the flowers that surrounded her home. 

Inez leaves behind her children Gerald (Cindy) Buchholz, Jean (Greg) Wilcox, Jo Ann (Brad) Glarum, Thomas (Carolyn) Buchholz, Dennis (Elizabeth) Buchholz, Patricia (Loren) Freiborg, Kathleen (David) Valdez / Deplazes, Cynthia (Dale) Althoff.  Inez leaves 22 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchildren and a sister, Alyce Pollack.

Inez was preceded in death by parents Ralph & Helen Miller, Sister Ruth Kelsch, and Husband John Woell.

The family would like to extend gratitude to Sanford Hospice for the care, guidance and support Inez and her family received during her illness.  We also wish to thank St. Annes Parish, Fr Robert Foertsch and Deacon Ben Seiz for Inez’s spiritual support.

Visitation: Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 5-7 PM, at West Funeral Home, Casselton, ND, with a prayer service at 7 PM.

Mass of Christian Burial: Friday, May 16, 2025, at 10:30 AM, at St. Leo’s Catholic Church, Casselton, ND, with visitation one hour before the service.

Interment: Friday, May 16, 2025, following the service at Casselton Cemetery, Casselton, ND.
