Ina (Schossow) Kempel

Ina Kempel, 90, West Fargo, ND passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Sheyenne Crossings in West Fargo.

Ina June Schossow was born June 23, 1931at Enderlin, ND to Fred and Rose (Erbstoesser) Schossow. She grew up at Chaffee, ND and graduated from high school there. She received a teaching certificate from Valley City State College. Her first teaching job was at a one room school at Elliott, ND. There she met her husband to be Ferdinand Kempel. They were married in 1950 at Lisbon, ND. They made their home in Lisbon and in 1957 moved to Grand Rapids, ND where she worked at the Federated Store, bowling alley and was also a farm wife. In 1966, they moved to Chaffee. There they operated the grocery store. She also worked at the post office and as a cook at the school until it closed. She then worked as a cook at NDSU in Fargo until retiring.

Ina also served as the St. Peter/St. John Church secretary for 40 plus years and was active in the lady’s circle. She enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers. The coffee pot was always on for a good visit or playing cards.

She is survived by two children, Rick Kempel of Forman, ND and Candy Kempel of Casselton, ND; three grandchildren, Isaac Williams, Jocelyn Williams and Jera Kempel; and two great grandchildren, Cayda and Johanna.

Ina was preceded in death by her husband and brother, Fred (Eileen) Schossow.

Visitation: Thursday, May 5, 2022 from 5 to 7 PM at West Funeral Home, Casselton, ND.

Funeral: Friday, May 6 at 10:30 AM at St. Peter Lutheran Church, rural Leonard with visitation one hour prior.

Burial: Watson Cemetery, rural Leonard, ND.
