Heidi McLean, 54, of Harwood, ND, passed away Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Heidi Sue (Richter) McLean was born at Lake Region Hospital in Fergus Falls, MN on December 05, 1968, to Dr. Paul and Beverly Richter. She was baptized and confirmed at Federated Church in Fergus Falls. In 1987, she graduated from Fergus Falls High School where she participated in NHS, the high school band and jazz band (saxophone), swimming, and she was an enthusiastic Otter fan.
At an early age, Heidi developed a fondness for animals, consequently, her first job was volunteering at the Fergus Falls humane society from where came her first dog, Maude. Heidi attended College in Fergus Falls for one year before transferring to NDSU where she received her degree in Veterinary Technology. During this time, she met and married Bradley McLean of Lakota, ND. After working for a Fargo Veterinary Clinic for a few years, she returned to school to obtain her nursing degree. Immediately after marriage, she and Brad moved to Ida Grove, IA where Heidi worked in the Denison, IA Hospital then later in a senior care facility. From there, they returned to the Fargo area to be around family and then settled in their current Harwood home. Heidi accepted the position as a correctional nursing supervisor at the Cass County jail where she worked for around 23 years. Her most recent employment was in cancer research at Roger Maris Cancer Center.
Among her favorite things in life were spending time with family, and all manner of animals, visiting lakes and beaches, vacationing with her family, family game nights, listening to music (Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Men at Work, Oasis, etc.), attending concerts with her children, and being with her friends.
Preceding her in death were both sets of grandparents and her father. She is survived by her husband, Brad, and children: Andrea (Andrew) Gudding, Easton, and Maren; and grandchildren, Charlie, Cora, and Chase. Also surviving are her mother, Beverly Richter; brother, Mark (Cindy) Richter; sisters, Barbara (Douglas) Becker and Mary Beth (Daniel) Schindler; nephews and nieces, aunts and uncles, and several cousins.
Heidi had a lifetime love for angels, and now she’s one of them, watching over all of us.
