Harold V Curtis, 86, of West Fargo, passed away at Eventide Sheyenne Crossing in West Fargo on Friday, September 24, 2021. A memorial service will take place Monday, October 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in West Funeral Home, West Fargo, with visitation one hour prior to the service and Military honors immediately following the service. Private family burial will take place at3:30 at Sunset Memorial Gardens of Fargo
Harold was born September 16, 1935 to Harold and Mary Grace Curtis in Fargo. He was raised working in his dad’s horse stables in South Fargo, training American Saddlers. From then on, he always had a love of horses and loved to tell stories about working with horses. He had a talent for drawing them. He graduated from Fargo Central High School.
Harold served in the Ninth Naval District in Norfolk, VA aboard the U.S.S. Northampton from 1955 to 1959. He continued to serve in the Naval Reserve out of Fargo until retiring in 1995 as Senior Chief Petty Officer. He received vocational education and training as a drafter, plumber as Chief Hull Maintenance Technician throughout his career. Throughout his retirement, he marched in military honors for Memorial Day and funerals in Casselton, ND
He married Alberta Ann Lundquist on October 5, 1957 in Fargo. They moved back to Fargo from Virginia where Harold worked many side jobs in addition to the maintenance department of the Fargo Public Schools as a plumber for 25 years until retirement in 1995. They raised seven children in their north Fargo home. In 1980 when they moved to a small farm near Amenia, ND. Alberta passed away in 1984, but Harold continued to live there with their youngest son Charlie for several years. He moved to West Fargo in 2000 and lived there the remainder of his life, the last 2 years he resided at New Perspective senior living center.
Harold had many jobs throughout his life, including raising 7 children. He retired from the Fargo Public schools in 1995.
Harold enjoyed living in the country, working with animals, and gardening. He enjoyed many hobbies and was a talented artist, and loved woodworking, leatherwork, and drawing, he especially focused on drawing Horses. Harold and his long-time friend Petronella Shirk enjoyed going to many dances at the American Legion, Eagles and VFW and other dances in the FM area. He was always on the dance floor, and took great pride when he danced the night away without hardly sitting down, he was in great demand at the senior singles dances!
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Harold Curtis and Grace (Hanson) Curtis, wife, Alberta, daughter Rose Koslofsky (Gary), daughter in law Michele Curtis, and sister Marian Lang (Al). He is survived by his brothers William Curtis (Colleen), Richard Curtis (Mary), and his remaining children Edward Curtis, James Curtis (Tami), Danial Curtis, Sharon Holmes (Randy), Patricia Curtis, and Harold (Charlie) Curtis (Amber)as well as 17 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Memorial Service: Monday, October 4, 2021 at 2:00 p.m. in West Funeral Home, West Fargo, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
