Gregory “Greg” Paul Frederick began his life story in Fargo on April 27, 1949 and ended it in his home in West Fargo on September 20, 2023. Other than the four years that he was in the Navy, he lived in and was proud of North Dakota. Greg, his parents Helen and Dick, and younger sister, Becky, lived on the north side of Fargo where he graduated from North High in 1967. After graduation, he worked at Fargo Foundry before enlisting in the Navy where he was stationed on the USS Long Beach. Greg talked about his duties as a radar man and the time spent overseas in Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok and other places while serving in the Navy. He met his wife, Connie, in California in 1973 around the time that he was discharged, and they got married the following year in Fargo. Greg’s father passed away in 1973 and a few years later, his mother married Peter Gress, a welcome addition to the family. More welcome additions came when Greg became a father. He treasured daughter Alissa, born in 1979 and son Brian, born in 1982. Over the years, the family enjoyed many get togethers, holidays and trips with close friends, making a lifetime of memories. Water skiing and snow skiing memories were a part of many vacation stories.
Greg attended NDSU and earned a degree in Business. He worked at a variety of jobs throughout his life in the areas of sales, communications, and technology but especially enjoyed his less stressful, more fun retirement jobs. Also in his retirement years, he loved being with family and friends and looked forward to visiting new places and seeing the sights. Greg was a fan of Green Bay Packers football and Boston Bruins hockey as well as car racing, and Marvel movies, which he enjoyed with his grandchildren. In addition to Alissa and Brian, Greg’s five grandchildren, Kaylee, Carson, Kaden, Dylan and Beau Gregory were the bright lights of his life. He loved each one of them dearly and was so very proud of them. Greg is remembered by them, his wife Connie, daughter-in-law Michelle, dear friend John Heller, sister Becky Wood and family, brother-in-law Frank Jacobson and family, and many other dear friends. Also remembered are Greg’s parents Helen and Dick, his stepfather Peter Gress, his grandparents Mabel and Henry Hanson, and parents-in-law Niomy and Ted Jacobson, who passed before him.
Greg’s family wishes to thank the staffs at the Roger Maris Cancer Center, Fargo VA Medical Center, Sanford Home Health, and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the kind, respectful care received during Greg’s mesothelioma illness. Their support was much appreciated during this very difficult time.
