Grace Hansen

Grace Hansen, 90, Fargo, ND, passed away Thursday, December 24, 2020, at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo.

Grace Zdeb was born on August 28, 1930, in Valley City, ND, the daughter of Joseph and Elna (Carlson) Zdeb as the 9th of 10 children.  She lived in Valley City, rural Barnes County, and Fingal, ND.   She graduated in 1948 from Fingal High School as Salutatorian.

Grace was united in marriage to Audber Hansen July 7, 1948, at the Alice Moravian Church.   Their family grew with the addition of their seven children.   They lived in Alice from 1951 – 1956, Valley City 1957-1971, and then in Fargo.  Grace enjoyed bowling, gardening and her flower gardens.  She was employed at Bethany Homes, Fargo, in Environmental Services doing personal laundry for over 20 years.  Grace is a member of Shepherd of the Prairie Moravian Church in Fargo.

She was a great loving mother, giving her children her unconditional love and strength.  Her seven children, 19 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren (and one more expected in January) were her greatest joys and she supported all of them in their lives and activities, and she especially loved family gatherings and rocking the new babies.   All of them welcomed her home-made “peanut butter cups” on special days.

Grace is survived by her children Karen Murie and Janet Nicoli, both Fargo, Grover (Marilyn), West Fargo, Garland (Pat) and Rhonda (Dan) Fairfield, both Valley City, and Mark (Candy), Forman, ND; her grand and great-grandchildren; and one sister Leona Zdeb, Enderlin.  Since the time of Grace's passing, another great-granddaughter was born in January, but her sister  Leona died in January.

She was preceded in death by her husband, a son Gaylon, her parents, brothers Joseph, John, Richard, Orville, Edward and Ralph; sisters Florence Brown and Ellen Sherman; and sons-in-law Louie Nicoli and Craig Murie.  

FUNERAL SERVICE:   2 pm Saturday, June 12, 2021 in West Funeral Home Chapel, with Visitation held one hour prior.

INTERMENT:   Memory Gardens, Valley City, ND, following her service and a time of fellowship with the family held prior to leaving for the cemetery.
