Gerald "Jerry" Begin Jr.

Gerald William Begin, Jr. “Jerry”, 72, of West Fargo, ND, passed away on June 17, 2026, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born on September 11, 1953, in St. Paul, MN to Gerald William Begin, Sr. and Dorothy (Slipka) Begin, Jerry grew up in the north suburbs of St Paul, MN, where he met his wife, Patricia K. Horsmann “Patty”. They were married on February 16, 1974 at St. John the Baptist Church in New Brighton, MN.. Together, they raised their two children, Kirk and Carissa, in Fergus Falls, MN, before eventually moving to West Fargo, ND. A true American patriot, Jerry was very proud of his military service from 1987-1997, especially his service in the Navy as a Seabee. A "jack of all trades" throughout his working life, he made many friends along the way as he worked at Frontier Equipment, setting up the Gander Mountain Store in Fargo and delivering supplies through Sanford Healthcare Accessories. Outside of work, Jerry was an avid outdoorman. As a young man he enjoyed racing snowmobiles and taking Patty for a ride on his motorcycle. As his family grew he took many camping, hunting, and fishing trips with family and friends. Jerry also never missed an opportunity to play bingo with his sister. In the last years of his life he leveraged what he learned as a CNA at the MN Veterans home as he spent time caring for his daughter, Carissa. A dog lover at heart, he never met one who didn't love him right back.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Patty; his daughter, Carissa Begin of West Fargo, ND; his son, Kirk (Mandie) Begin; his grandchildren, Gage, William, Isabella, and Zachariah of West Fargo, ND; his sister, Cheri Rundle of Blaine, MN; his brother, Mike Begin of Alexandria, MN; step mother Joyce Begin and step sister Kari Mohrmann of St. Joseph MN; and his nephews, niece, their spouses and children. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald W. Begin, Sr. and Dorothy Begin; his mother in law Eileen Maki, his brother in law Tim Rundle, and many loyal canine companions.

A private memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Sanford Hospice.
