George Christiansen

George “Junior” Christiansen, 94, Wadena, MN died peacefully surrounded by family on Tuesday, June 16, 2026, at The Meadows of Wadena.

Born on February 22, 1932, in Lake Wilson, MN, George William was the son of Sarah Marie and George Anton Christiansen. He lived a life defined by hard work, service to his country, and a deep love for family, friends and the outdoors.

George proudly served during Koran War with The United States Air Force as an Airman First Class from 1955-1961. He was stationed at James Connally Air Force Base in Waco, TX as an airman mechanic. During his military service, he earned the Good Conduct Medal and the Air Force Longevity Service Award; honors that reflected his dedication and commitment.

Following his military service, George built a long and respected career with Ed Phillips & Sons and Johnson Brothers, where he worked as a sales consultant from October of 1966 until his retirement in March of 2017. His 50-year career was a testament to his strong work ethic, loyalty, and perseverance.

George enjoyed the simple pleasures in life. He loved fishing, bird hunting, sharing great meals with family and friends, playing cards, and spending time with his beloved American Water Spaniels, especially Ruff. Whether he was walking the field bird hunting, on a lake fishing with his grandkids, around a card table hoping to win a few dollars, or gathered with loved ones, George found joy in companionship and creating lasting memories.

George was preceded in death by his parents Sarah Marie and George Anton Christiansen, his brother David Christiansen, and his former wife Romona Paul, mother of his children.

He is survived by his sister Mary Jean Olson (Roger), West Fargo, ND; his brother Larry Christiansen (Sharon) West Fargo, ND; his children, George Douglas Christiansen, Ramsey, MN; Joann Marie Stewart, Motley, MN; Ralph Steven Christiansen (Marilyn), Gainesville, TX; Candice Caye Kosir (Tom), Farmington, MN, and his former wife Jane Schoonover.

George is also survived by his 11 wonderful grandchildren; many great grandchildren; and numerous extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.

George will be remembered for his stubborn personality, quiet strength, deep loud voice, big hugs, and devotion to those he loved. His legacy lives on through the family he cherished, the friendships he cultivated, and the many lives he touched throughout his 94 years.

Memorial Service:  2 p.m. Friday, June 26, 2026, at West Funeral Home in West Fargo.

Visitation:  An hour prior to the Memorial Service.

Burial:  Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo, North Dakota
