Gene Neumiller Obituary

Gene L. Neumiller, 90, passed away on July 24, 2021, at New Perspective Memory Care in West Fargo where he had resided for three and a half years.

Gene was born June 3, 1931, in Bisbee, ND and was raised in Cathay, ND.  After graduating from Cathay High School, Gene enlisted in the Navy for four years and served aboard the USS President Jackson.

Gene and Norma Jean Seidel were married October 24, 1954, at Cathay, ND.  They had two daughters.

After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he worked as a telegrapher for the Soo Line Railroad for ten years.  They lived in Carrington and Kenmare during this time.  Gene started banking in Carrington at Foster County State Bank.   In 1969, they moved to Cando, ND, where Gene assisted in developing the operational procedures for Towner County State Bank, a newly chartered bank.  In 1974, they moved to Maddock, ND, where Gene was a loan officer at Farmers State Bank.  He retired from banking in 1992.   Gene enjoyed visiting with his customers and after retirement he still found time to stop in and visit at the bank.  After 34 years in Maddock, they moved to West Fargo in 2008.

Gene loved to golf and spent countless hours on the golf course in Maddock and Fargo.  He always came home with more golf balls that he found while golfing!  He also enjoyed camping, yardwork and reading. In Maddock, he was a member of the Maddock City Council, School Board, North Viking Church Council and Senior Meals Board in Devils Lake.   Gene and Norma Jean enjoyed traveling and Gene went to several states with Norma Jean as part of her involvement with GFWC of North Dakota.  They also traveled to six different countries and went on several cruises.  Gene was a member of Olivet Lutheran Church, American Legion, VFW, and Masonic Lodge.

Gene is survived by his wife of 66 years, Norma Jean, daughters Nancy (Alan) Malm, Sandra (Charley) Olson.  He is also survived by his 4 grandchildren, Kelsey (Jake) Boerboon, Lindsey (Jerry) Bravender, Erica (Scott Motschenbacher) Olson and Trevor (Laurel McAndrews) Olson along with 4 great-grandchildren Sawyer, Delaney, Aubrey and Archer, and nieces and nephews.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother, his brother Leslie, and sister-in-law Juanita.

A special thank you to the New Perspective staff and caregivers and Ethos Hospice for their loving care of Gene.
