Gene Giese

Gene Giese, age 87, of Fargo, ND, died Tuesday, June 23, 2020 at Sanford Health, Fargo.

Eugene Roy Giese was born August 18, 1932 in Elgin, ND, the son of Daniel and Etta (Mayer) Giese.  The family moved to a farm near Steele, ND in 1942, and Gene graduated from Steele High School in 1952.   He then joined the US Air Force and was discharged for medical reasons in June 1952.

Gene was united in marriage to Hilda Kramlich on July 8, 1956 at Tappen, ND.    Three children were born to them. 

In 1958, Gene went to work for the US Department of Agriculture as a Soil Conservationist at Selfridge, ND, and then worked at Napoleon, ND and Cavalier, ND.   In 1970 Gene and Hilda moved to Fessenden, ND where he worked until his retirement in April 1986.  He then went to work for the Soil Conservation District in Fergus Falls, MN and Wheaton, MN where he was the manager.  They moved to Buffalo, ND in 1998 and to Fargo in 2011.

Gene helped plant many trees in North Dakota.  He loved to garden, bowl and play cards.  Gene mostly loved to fish – and talked about fishing a lot! 

Gene is survived by his wife Hilda; one son Glen (wife Stephanie Sailer) Giese, Fargo; two daughters Audrey (husband Victor) Nordstrom, and Karla (husband Darrell) Schlagel, both of Fargo; 6 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren; one brother Ray (Janet) Giese, California; and his sister-in-law, Lorraine Giese, Steele, ND.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Clifford and Chester, and one sister Vicky.

Private Memorial Service:   3 pm Tuesday, June 30, 2020 in West Funeral Home Chapel, West Fargo, ND.
