Obituary

   The Tandsater Family mourns the death of Gary Herbert Tandsater, 70, born September 19, 1949, at St. John’s Hospital Fargo, ND, to Harold and Cecelia Tandsater. Gary started working at an early age, as he was raised in his family’s café, bar and gas station business in Argusville. Following his high school graduation in 1967 from Argusville High School, he attended Moorhead Technical College for Refrigeration and Air Conditioning.  Gary served active duty in the United States Air Force from 1968-1972. Following his service, he worked in the Heating, Air Conditioning and pipefitting business across many states. Gary was a proud member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local #338 since August 1976; and spent several years teaching apprentice classes.

   Gary married Tamara Wiest on September 8, 1990, in Moorhead, MN. Together they had two sons, John Garrett (1992) and Logan James (1994). Tamara and his sons were his life. Secondary to his family he loved his John Deere lawn mower. His hobbies included deer hunting in his earlier years, tending to his yard, managing projects in his home, working on projects in his garage and making sure the pump kept running to keep water off of many yards during the spring thaw and after heavy rains.  In the past year, he was honored to serve with the United Patriotic Body providing military rites at the Fargo National Cemetery.  

   Gary was a member of the Harwood American Legion Post #297, the West Fargo VFW, and the AMVETS. He served on the Argusville City Council; and then as Mayor of Argusville from­­­­ ­­­­October 2011 – June 2014.   He was also a past member of the Argusville Volunteer Fire Department. 

   Gary died surrounded by his family at Essentia Hospital Thursday evening, August 27, 2020.

   Gary is survived by his wife; his sons John (Chenise) Tandsater and granddaughter Sawyer Marie, Mapleton, ND; Logan Tandsater, and his girlfriend Christine, Grand Forks, ND;   brother, Richard (Darlene) Tandsater, Park Rapids, MN; sisters Doris Rogers, Loveland, CO; Joan (Gary Peterson), and Marlys Tandsater, both of Fargo; his brother-in-law, Glenn Wiest, Wilton, ND; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Glenda and Vern Stern, Osburn, ID; and many nieces and nephews.   He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law, Gene Rogers, and nephew, Gregory Rogers.

   A private graveside service with military honors will be held.  Gary will be inurned at Osterdalen Lutheran Church cemetery, rural Argusville, ND.

   Memorials preferred to Osterdalen Lutheran Church Cemetery, c/o the family; or to a charity of your choice.
