Evelyn Johnson, 98, Reiles Acres, ND died on Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023 at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.
Evelyn Pearl Harmon was born Jan. 30, 1925 in Hunter, ND to LaMott and Dora (Thomas) Harmon. She attended school in Amenia, ND and graduated from high school in Hunter, ND. Evy also attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing in Fargo. Evelyn married Abby Johnson on Nov 7, 1944 in the Hunter Methodist Church. Abby served in the US Army and she traveled by his side. They settled on a farm near Galesburg, ND. In 1956, they moved to the Colgate - Hope area. They farmed for many years along with raising dairy cattle and other livestock until retiring. They later moved to Casselton, ND. Following Abby’s death she lived with her son, Keith and Yvette at Reiles Acres.
Evy was active at First Presbyterian Church in Colgate serving as an organist, church Elder and in the CPW. She also attended many national conferences representing ND. She taught music and gave piano lessons. She was a member of the “61 Homemakers” Club, enjoyed bowling, served as a 4H Leader and was a member of the “Friendly Four” band which played across the region.
Evy loved spending time with her family and grandchildren and could always be a listening ear or caring friend to anyone in the community. She also organized many Thomas – Harmon family reunions.
She is survived by four children, Alfred (Sharon), Dean (Lanette), Keith (Yvette) and Judy Johnson Berg; 13 grandchildren; many great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Abby; grandson Dana Johnson; sons-in-law Darell Berg and Steven Middlestead; and all her 11 siblings.
Visitation: Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2023 from 5 to 7 PM with a prayer service at 7 PM at West Funeral Home, West Fargo.
Funeral: Thursday, Aug. 17 at 11 AM at First Presbyterian Church, Colgate with visitation one hour prior.
Interment: Hunter Cemetery.
