Esther M. Hemm, 97, of West Fargo, passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2020, at Sanford Health in Fargo.
Esther Marilyn Trapp daughter of Ervin and Myrtle (Brackin) Trapp was born February 19, 1923, in St. Luke’s Hospital in Fargo and lived in Karnak, ND. In 1936, the family moved to West Fargo and owned the Home Sweet Home Motel until 1986.
Esther attended and graduated from high school in West Fargo. In 1940, she attended Interstate Business College. In 1941, she entered the Civil Service and was employed by the U.S. Treasury Department in Washington, DC then in Chicago, Il until 1945 when she transferred to the Veterans Administration in Fargo and worked there until 1951.
Esther married Wilfred Hemm on March 14, 1951 and had two sons, Curtis and David. In 1961, she became assistant manager of the Home Sweet Home Motel on east main in West Fargo and was co-owner with her husband who built and operated Hemm’s Greenhouse for 29 years in West Fargo.
She was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church in West Fargo and enjoyed her flowers and crafts.
Esther was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Wilfred, who died February 22, 2000; and a sister: Leona Trapp.
She is survived by her two sons: Curtis and David of West Fargo.
Funeral: 2 p.m. Monday, March 23, 2020 at West Funeral Home in West Fargo.
Visitation: An hour prior.
Burial: Sunset Memorial Gardens, in Fargo.
