Emily Kurtz, 96, Enderlin, ND passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025 at Elim Care Center in Fargo, ND.
Emily Ottow was born Dec. 5, 1928 at Davenport, ND to Emanuel and Bertha Ottow. She grew up on the family farm West of Davenport and attended country school. She continued her schooling at a Fargo business college.
Emily married Alvin R. Kurtz on June 22, 1953 at the Canaan Moravian Church, near Davenport, ND. They lived on the Kurtz family farm South of Alice, ND where they farmed for many years. She devoted her time to being a homemaker and raising their three children. They had been married two weeks short of 70 years at the time of Alvin’s death in June of 2023. She continued to remain on the farm until December of 2024.
She was a member of the Enderlin VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was a quiet caring soul and enjoyed reading and cross words puzzles along with gardening. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by her three children, Lori (Tim) Schmidt, David (Julie) and Gary (Julie); seven grandchildren, Jennifer (Donny), Michael, Brandon (Maycee), Brad (Lacey), Holly (Lucas), Adam and Kelly; seven great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Sharon Kurtz; and many nieces and nephews.
Emily was preceded in death by parents; husband, Alvin; brother, Lawrence Ottow; and great granddaughter, Lily Rae Kurtz.
Funeral: Monday, Jan. 27, 2025 at 11 AM at West Funeral Home Chapel, Casselton, ND with visitation one hour prior.
Burial: Salem Cemetery, rural Enderlin.
