Duaine Altman, 73, of Leonard, ND, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026, in his home.
Duaine was born on July 24th, 1953, to Allan Willard Altman and Mae Maggie (Peterson) Altman. He grew up in the rural Lisbon area on a farm. He attended a rural country school for two years before continuing in Lisbon, where he graduated from Lisbon 1971. Duaine attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND where he studied automotive Mechanics. Duaine married Barb Ann (Lehfeldt) Altman on July 21, 1990, at Maple Sheyenne Lutheran Church near Harwood. They made their home in West Fargo until 2000 when they moved to a farm just South of Leonard, ND.
Duaine worked at various mechanic shops in the Fargo Moorhead area in the early years, with Automotive Specialties being the shop he ultimately settled into and eventually, retired from.
Duaine loved dogs, classic cars, racing, gardening, and almost any home project a person could think of. He loved to stay busy and was a man of many talents. Beyond his talents with automotive, and especially classic cars, he could manage just about any home, yard, or farm related task with ease. He was many’s go to person for all things classic cars, and…if he couldn’t do it himself, he certainly always knew a guy that could. He loved reminiscing about past shenanigans in his youth and had many friends and family he spoke of fondly, having a story for each and every one of them…if not multiple. No matter how busy Duaine was, he always had time for family.
Duaine was preceded in death by his wife, Barb; his mother and father, Mae and Allen; and his brother, Bruce Altman of Lisbon.
Duaine is survived by his sons, Derek (Misty) Altman of Hermosa and Trevor Altman of Fargo; his grandchildren, Keilana and Lane Altman; his niece, Krissy Lehfeldt of Leonard; his sisters, Jan Weigel of Horace, Barb Altman of Fargo and Betty Jo Tostenson of Fargo.
