Donna Mae Myers, 85, went to be with our Lord and Savior on February 25, 2025.
Donna Mae Mabel Gast was born on October 1, 1939, in Hankinson, ND, the oldest of Carl and Viola (Tischer) Gast. She was confirmed into faith at St. John Lutheran Church in Tyler, ND, on November 8, 1953, and later graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1958.
During her time in the Wahpeton/Breckenridge area, Donna met Galen Myers on a blind date, and they became lifelong partners on October 24, 1959. Starting their journey together on a farm just outside Arthur, ND, they later relocated to Amenia, ND, where they built their home and raised three sons: Merle, Kevin, and Steve.
After the retirement of longtime Postmaster Morgan Ford, Donna stepped in as the Postmistress of Amenia’s small post office. For her, this role was more than just handling mail; it became an opportunity to visit and get caught up on the small town life in rural ND.
If one were to summarize Donna’s life in four words, they might be “our mom the Mayor.” With a servant's heart, she couldn’t say no when her community asked her to take on the role of mayor, because no one else would run. Initially promising to serve just one term, she ended up serving two. Donna showed what it meant to be a servant to others.
Throughout her life, Donna exemplified the spirit of service, contributing to various church groups and volunteering as a scoutmaster when no one else was willing to step up. Her commitment to helping others was evident in everything she did.
Two of her most cherished roles were being a grandma and spending time with her quilting friends. Donna deeply valued her moments with her grandchildren and later her great-grandchildren, often baking goodies, drying apple wraps, and playing games with them. How about those peanut butter balls and her monkey bread was the best!
Her passion for sewing led her to create beautiful quilts with her friends at Martins Lutheran Church. Together, this lively group crafted hundreds, if not thousands, of quilts over the years. The pleasure Donna derived from knowing these quilts would be donated to Fargo’s YWCA and various shelters was immense.
Now, “our mom the mayor” is joyfully praising and serving our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ alongside her beloved Galen.
Donna is survived by her three sons, Merle (Ardene) Myers, Kevin (Susan) Myers, and Steve (Wendy) Myers; seven grandchildren, Cindy (Joe) Engle, Michelle Myers (Joshua Sween), Dezirae Wilkins (Josh Carrizales), Danielle (Alex) Kanack, Christina Myers, Nick Myers, and Ben (fiancé Chloe Brown) Myers; and great-grandchildren Isaac, Hudson, and Abigail Engle; Lincoln, Lettie and Thor Sween; Caleb, Carson, and Colby Wilkins; Trenton and Jacob Carrizales; and Livia, Nora, June and Henry Kanack.
Donna is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Viola Gast, brother Don Gast, husband Galen Myers, and daughter-in-law Tamara Myers.
