Donna Hammer, 91, of Lisbon, ND passed away on Tuesday, August 12, 2025 at Beverly Anne Assisted Living in Lisbon.
Donna Mae Bartl was born June 27, 1934 in Britton, SD to Alfred and Bessie (Krchnavy) Bartl. She grew up on the family farm near Stirum, ND and graduated from high school there in 1952. She married Maurice Hammer on November 27, 1953. They made their home near Elliott, ND where they farmed for many years. He passed away suddenly on December 20, 1991, and Donna moved into Lisbon the following year. In May of 2023, she moved to the Beverly Anne Assisted Living.
Donna’s work was her hobby and her hobbies were her work. She loved to cook and bake and enjoyed gardening and tending her flower beds. She was active in her church – Trinity Lutheran. Her family however was her life – she cherished going to her kids, grandkids and great grandkids activities and loved family gatherings.
Donna is survived by two daughters, Debbie (Charlie) Armstrong and Cindy (Chip) Stetson, both of Lisbon; five grandchildren, Jason (Sue) Armstrong of Thorton, CO, Jennifer (Ryan) Stroh of Kindred, ND, Charissa Hoglund of West Fargo, Ryan Stetson of Moorhead, MN and Heather (Chad) Carr of West Fargo; ten great grandchildren; three sisters, Darlene Coleman of Oakes, ND, Mavis (Glen) Thompson of West Fargo and Connie Johnson of West Fargo; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Bartl of Alexandria, MN; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; siblings, Kenneth (Ramona) Bartl, Larry Bartl, Jan (Jerry) Gramlow; and two brothers-in-law, Lysle Coleman and Bill Johnson.
Special thanks to Mary Madsen and the staff at Beverly Anne as well as CHI Hospice for their heartfelt care of Donna.
