Donald J. “Don” Braunberger, age 96, of Fargo, ND, died Sunday, March 30, 2025, at the VA Medical Center, Fargo, ND.
Donald James Braunberger was born May 19, 1928, at McClusky, ND, the son of Christian and Pauline (Stein) Braunberger. He grew up on the family farm located in Sheridan County. In 1951, he entered the US Army, serving two years with the Army Engineers, stationed at the Panama Canal. Following his discharge, Don attended Dunwoody Trade School, Minneapolis, MN, where he began his life-long career as a talented carpenter and building contractor.
On June 5, 1954, Don was united in marriage to Marion R. Peter of Page, ND, at the Assembly of God Church in Valley City, ND. He then attended Lakewood Park Bible School, Devils Lake, ND. Don & Marion lived first at Hope, ND where he worked as a carpenter. They moved to Finley, ND in 1960, and with his brothers, Harley and Leslie, operated Braunberger Construction Company. Don retired in 1990.
Don and Marion moved from Finley to Bismarck, ND in 1997, and to Edgewood Vista, Fargo in 2014. They enjoyed their many friends gained over the years in these communities.
He was an active member of Finley American Legion and Community Club. He served as President of the Economic Development Corp, and also served 7 years on the board of Union Hospital, Mayville, ND. His faith was an integral part of his life. While living in Finley, he was a member of the Finley Assembly of God Church, where he served as Adult Sunday School teacher and as a board member. He also ministered as a “fill-in pastor” at various churches. He was a member of Gideons International for many years. In Bismarck, he and Marion were active members at Evangel, serving in multiple areas there as well. His life-long hobbies included hunting, fishing, and artistic wood and metal working.
Don is survived by his wife Marion, Fargo, ND; three children, Blane (Julie) of Yuma, AZ, and Bismarck, ND, Kent (Carol) of West Fargo, ND, Candy (Brad) Morrow, West Fargo, ND; 7 grandchildren, Adam (Tara) Braunberger, Brandon (Nikki) Braunberger, Heather (Marco) Moser, Brittany (Dustin) Baker, Jordan (Emily) Braunberger, Ashlee (Eric) Rostvedt, Blake (Katie) Morrow; 17 (soon 18) great-grandchildren; siblings Marlene (Charles) Ingalls, Leslie (Ginger) Braunberger. Also by sisters-in-law Barbara Beckstrand, Debby Maust, Anna (Bob) Langness, Jann (Glen) Dell and brother-in-law Alfred (Bernadette) Peter.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters Olinda Schaeffer, Janice Lauer, Arlene Braunberger (infant); his brothers Albin and Harley; brothers-in-law Adolph Schaeffer, Lloyd Lauer, Leonard Peter, Carl Peter and Walter Peter; sisters-in-law Evelyn Peter and Merilyn Peter.
Memorials are suggested to ND Veterans Cemetery or any church of your choice.
Funeral Service: 2 pm Thursday April 3, 2025 at Edgewood Vista, Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior.
Visitation: Noon – 2 pm Friday, April 4, at Evangel Church, Bismarck, ND.
Burial, with Military Honors: 3 pm Friday at the ND Veterans Cemetery, Mandan, ND.
