Dean W. Saewert, 71, of Casselton, ND passed away on June 15, 2022. Dean was born to parents Gordon and Lorna (Lantz) Saewert November 28, 1950.
Dean, the third born of five children, grew up on the family farm in Chaffee and attended Goshen Moravian School and then to Chaffee High school, from where he graduated in 1968. He attended Wahpeton State school of Science for a year before making the decision to enlist in the Air Force on July 2, 1969. He would enjoy the next 38 years of his career in the life support/parachute department with the ND Air National Guard Happy Hooligans. Dean was the perfect man for the job, anyone who knew him, knew the pride he took in his work.
After his retirement from the air guard in 2007, Dean returned to one of his first loves, farming. With his exemplary work ethic, Dean was an asset to any farmer he worked for. He loved being busy outdoors and helping others. He had become quite a connoisseur of John Deere farm implements and has quite a collection of display model tractors.
Dean had a special love of all things Christmas. His yearly decorations could most likely be seen from space, but oh how he loved them. To accent his extensive Christmas decorations, he took great pride in maintaining the best looking lawn in town. Many hours were dedicated to making the yard beautiful without a blade of grass or leaf out of place.
Dean fought the battle against cancer and all that comes with it for the last 15 years and wanted to express a special thank you to Dr. Gross at Roger Maris Cancer Center for his excellent and loving care of him over the last 15 years, and for walking with him during this journey as a friend as well as a physician.
Dean is survived by his daughter Kristine Zimmel; three grandchildren Andrew, Anna and Matthew; significant other Sherry Mischke; brother David (Donna) Saewert; sisters Diane (Loren) Staroba, Darla (David) Paulson; nieces Tracy (Jason) Daniels (children Emerson and Tyson); LaNell (Mike) Hagen (children Elle, Liv, Charolette); Megan Staroba.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister Dawn (Fred); niece Debbie Scott
