David Lee Paul, 81, of Buffalo, ND died on Sunday, October 22 at Sanford on Broadway, Fargo, ND.
David was born on September 18, 1942, in Fargo, ND to August and Irene (Gillund) Paul and was raised on the family farm near Buffalo, ND. David graduated from Buffalo High School in 1960, where he was a member of the basketball team that competed in the North Dakota State Class B Basketball Tournament in 1960. After high school, David enjoyed playing with the Buffalo Independent Basketball Team. David also enjoyed hunting, especially bow hunting, in his younger years. Though he still hunted occasionally in later years, David, having developed a very soft heart, would usually allow the deer to run right by him without firing a shot, commenting, “Wasn’t that just beautiful?” Eventually he decided to quit hunting altogether, stating that he “wasn’t a hunter anymore”.
After high school David began farming and eventually took over the family farm that his grandfather John Paul homesteaded in 1879. David continued to lend a hand on the farm to his brother and later to his nephew after he retired from farming.
After David’s Father’s death in 1965, with great love and affection, David and his mother Irene took care of each other until Irene’s death in 2001.
David is survived by his sister Donna (Ben) Foster, Springfield, IL, and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews who loved him very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, August and Irene Paul, brothers Dale Paul, Dennis Paul and Donald Paul and nephew Jeffrey Foster.
