M. DARLINE WAHOWSKE, 91, of Fargo, ND, passed away on May 7, 2025, at Eventide Senior Living & Care.
M. Darline (Gibson) Wahowske was born March 9, 1934 in Ulen, MN to Marvin and Sylvia Gibson Sr. During World War ll, she attended grade schools in Ulen, MN, Bay City, MI and Post Falls, ID where her parents worked in defense plants. After the war, her family moved to Moorhead, MN where she graduated from high school in 1952. She began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Co. after graduation. While working at NW Bell, she met and married a fellow employee, Myron (Sam) Wahowske. She was a stay-at-home mom while her children were young. She was active in PTA, Cub Scout leader, Camp Fire, 4-H leader and VFW Auxiliary Officer. She enjoyed bowling, sewing and trying new recipes during that time. She returned to work part-time at the telephone company when her children were all in school. She retired in 1990 from the phone company.
After her retirement, she and Sam spent nearly 20 winters in Mesa, AZ. Her favorite activities there were spending time on the golf course and socializing with friends and neighbors. They enjoyed over 20 years of retirement together before Sam passed away in 2012. She and Sam enjoyed traveling. They camped with their children and again with their granddaughters. They visited all 50 states and traveled throughout Europe numerous times, including the Scandinavian countries and Italy. They made many friends during their travels and felt they were fortunate to always have good neighbors. She always maintained she was the luckiest person she knew.
After deciding not to drive anymore, at the age of 90, she decided to move into Eventide Senior Living for more socialization. Although her time there was short, she met many new friends.
She is survived by her son, Michael (Lisa) Wahowske, Eagan, MN; daughter Danette (Jim) Potochick, Palm Coast, FL; son-in-law, Mark Sorby, Fargo, ND; 4 granddaughters – Kayla (Chris) Wolfgram, Nicole Sorby, Chelsea Sorby, and Katie Wahowske; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; brother, Marvin “Hoot” Gibson, Jr., Rochert, MN; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
