Dale Shields

Dale Shields, 87, Arthur, ND passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at his home surrounded by family and Hospice of the RRV.

Dale Shields was born January 8, 1934 in Fargo, ND to Charles and Annette (Sullivan) Shields.  He married Marie (Madsen) Shields on December 9, 1956.  They made their home in Arthur where he was very active in community affairs and organizations.  

Dale was a fire chief of the Arthur Volunteer Fire Department for a number of years.  He served on the Park Board and was a mindful caretaker of the town of Arthur.  Dale was also very active in the Arthur United Methodist Church.  As a person with a strong sense of community, he was  instrumental in various activities in the area.

Dale is survived by his three children; John of Kindred, Chuck of Arthur, and Jodi (Rob) Barkdoll of Gilbert, MN; grandchildren; Sara (Jeff) Fitzpatrick, Andrew Shields, Alex Shields, Taylor Barkdoll and Jake Barkdoll; great-grandchildren; Keelin, Grace, and Ben Fitzpatrick; sibling, Fran (Shields) Fetters, Covina, CA; in-laws; David (Patsy) Madsen, Ken (Ida) Breidenbach, Sharon Madsen, Mavis Madsen; and many nieces and nephews.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents; wife Marie; brother Don.

Memorials in lieu of flowers can be sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley or charity of choice.

Funeral Service:   11 am Tuesday, June 1, 2021, in Arthur United Methodist Church, Arthur, ND, with Visitation held one hour prior to the service.

Interment:  Arthur Cemetery
