Cindy Larck, 67, of Dilworth, MN, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 6, 2024.
Cynthia LaVon Johnson was born December 3, 1956, in St. Paul, MN to Donald and Carol (Olson) Johnson. She grew up in St. Paul with her six siblings until the family moved to Hitterdal, MN in 1971.
It was in Hitterdal that Cindy graduated high school and met the love of her life. She married Eugene “Gene” Larck in 1973. The couple lived in the Ulen-Hitterdal area before moving to Hope, ND, and eventually settling in West Fargo. Cindy later moved to Dilworth, where she lived out the rest of her life after her children had grown.
Cindy was affectionately known as “Grandma Cindy” to many. She worked as a daycare provider, helping to raise numerous children, many of whom remained close to her throughout her life. She cherished her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, with one more on the way. Cindy loved spending time with her family, often engaging in activities like playing board games, coloring and visiting parks. Her greatest joys were fishing and camping and she enjoyed exploring various state parks each summer. Cindy was also an avid thrifter and could often be found at garage sales, always on the lookout for a good deal.
Her dog, Buddy, was a constant companion, following her everywhere, including the bathroom. Cindy’s faith was deeply important to her, and she found great comfort and community at Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church in Moorhead. She had a fondness for the color red and adored butterflies, which were themes she lovingly incorporated into her home décor.
She is survived by her four children: Nickie Meither of Moorhead, MN; Shane (Jeri Anne) Larck of Hope, ND; Crystal Larck of Grafton, ND; and Tammy (Mike) Gunderson of West Fargo, ND. Cindy is also survived by seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and one more on the way; her siblings Kevin Johnson of Sandstone, MN; Jerry Johnson of Atkin, MN; Heidi (Tim) Hehr of Florida; and Lyle (Elana) Johnson of Oak Grove, MN; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Cindy was preceded in death by her husband Gene; her parents, Donald and Carol; her stepfather Art; her sister Cheryl; and her brother Lyman.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church. For those who can attend, wearing red and/or butterfly-themed attire would be a fitting tribute and would bring a smile to Cindy in heaven.
Memorial Service: Friday, September 13, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., in Triumph Lutheran Brethren Church-East Campus, Moorhead, MN, with visitation one hour prior to the service.
