Cheryl Marie Fontaine, 84, passed away peacefully on March 6th, 2026, under hospice care at SMP Health - St. Catherine North in Fargo, ND.
Cheryl was born on February 6th, 1942, in Grand Forks, ND to Pete and Adella (Shirek) Evans. She attended St. Michael’s Elementary School and Saint James High School in Grand Forks, ND, where she met her high school sweetheart, Jerry Quentin Fontaine. Cheryl and Jerry were married on November 18th, 1961. They resided in Grand Forks where they raised their family. Cheryl was employed in finance and accounting at the Grand Forks Air Force Base. Later, she worked as a business manager at the YMCA in Grand Forks. In 1990, Cheryl and Jerry moved to Maple Lake in Minnesota, where she worked at Polk County Social Services until retirement and then moved to West Fargo, ND, in 2007.
Cheryl had many hobbies which included ceramics, cross stitching, reading, antiquing and playing cards with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter Joan (Michael) Close of Simpsonville, SC and son Jerry Albert (Delcy) Fontaine of West Fargo, ND; five grandchildren Kathleen (Austin) Lasater, Molly (Trent) Middlebrough, Tyler Fontaine, Maeghan Fontaine and Paige Shearer; sister Janice Hoffman of Cudahy, WI; a niece and several nephews.
Cheryl was preceded in death by her parents Pete and Adella Evans, her husband Jerry Quentin Fontaine and son Jeffrey Peter Fontaine.
A celebration of life will be held for Cheryl on Saturday, April 11th, 2026, at 2:00pm at the West Fargo VFW Post 7564.
