Charles Deyo, 73, of West Fargo, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 26, 2026, in his home, surrounded by his family.
Charles Edward Deyo was born on December 17, 1952, in Huron, SD, to Virgil and Virginia (Shipp) Deyo. His father and grandpa Deyo were his best friends during his childhood, both of them passing away when he was 13. He grew up in Huron and Aberdeen, SD, graduating from Aberdeen High School. He then attended Lake Area Technical College in Watertown, SD and Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, ND.
On May 19, 1974, he married Viola McGillivary in Watertown, SD. They lived in Gwinner, Lisbon, Ellendale, and West Fargo, ND. Charles worked as senior designer at Bobcat in Gwinner, ND (ending up with 9 patents in his name) and as pastor at New Beginnings/The Rock Church in West Fargo, ND.
He enjoyed model vehicles and planes, coin collecting, and cooking.
He was a member and twice president of the Lisbon Jaycees and a board member of Faith Assembly of God Church in Lisbon where he helped remodel the church. He served on a mission trip to Nicaragua where he helped build schools, helped in Florida after Hurricane Katrina, and was a volunteer at Keen Camp and family camp at Lakewood Park Bible Camp where he was famously remembered for making popcorn.
Charles is survived by his wife, Viola Deyo; three daughters, Kim Deyo, Heidi (Craig) Ottenbacher, and Leah (Kale Glynn) Deyo; six grandchildren, Brendon Michael Mason, Mason Kelly Glynn, Luke Alan Ottenbacher, Liam Edward Ottenbacher, Greyson Edgar Ottenbacher, and Madeline Jenny Glynn; two siblings, IvaJean (Gerald) Deyo Hasty, and Erin (Sandy Deyo) Shipp; siblings-in-law, Wanda Clyde, Lawrence (Lois) McGillivary; and several nephews, nieces, and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Jo Deyo and his future son-in-law, Paul Keith; his parents, Virgil and Virginia Deyo; grandparents, Vernon and Iva (Pearce) Deyo; parents-in-law, Ronald and Dorothy McGillivary; brother-in-law, Darwin Clyde; an aunt and uncle (“second set of parents”), Vera and Norman Deyo; and other aunts, uncles, and extended family.
Memorials are preferred to Lakewood Park Bible Camp in Devils Lake, ND or Trinity Bible College in Ellendale, ND.
Funeral: Thursday, April 2, 2026 at 10 AM at Heartland Community Church, West Fargo, ND with visitation one hour prior.
Funeral: Friday, April 3, 2026 at 2 PM at Faith Assembly of God Church, Lisbon, ND with visitation one hour prior.
Interment: Oakwood Cemetery, Lisbon, ND.
