Charlene ‘Char’ Pauls-Laufman
Char passed away on May 3, 2020 at age 70. She was born in Fargo, ND to Arnold and Lorraine (Kupperion) Pauls on October 22, 1949. She was raised in Fargo/Moorhead, graduating from Moorhead High in 1967. She attended Moorhead Technical College as a member of the first graduating class of Medical Secretaries. Char worked for 30 years at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of ND working in the Noridian Medicare side specializing in beneficiary education and training. She made many friendships during her time at BCBS. She was a member of the Moorhead American Legion.
Char married Ron Laufman on September 5, 1994. They made their home in West Fargo. Ron was her partner, best friend and confidant. Ron was a great caregiver.
Char enjoyed going to the lake, casinos, working in her flower garden, baking, watching the MN Twins, and selling J.R. Watkin products. She enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities and loved spending time with them. Later in life Char had numerous health issues which made it difficult for her to enjoy many of these things.
Char loved her cats and always had one or two by her side. She collected cat figurines and memorabilia. She loved the holidays, especially Christmas and would have fun decorating and baking her grandma’s fudge to share with her family.
Char is survived by her husband Ron and son Shane (Kristina) Spieker, grandchildren Kaiden and Brynn of West Fargo; sisters: Nancy (Terry) Peterson, West Fargo, Kathy Forde, Amarillo, TX; nephews: Brant (special friend Tera) Peterson, John Forde, Fargo, Seth (Ashley) Schmitz, Red Lake Falls, MN; nieces: Erika (Todd) Steenerson, West Fargo, Erin (Justin) Smith and children Sydney and JJ, Amarillo, TX, Jenni (Reed) Maddox, Panama City, FL Teresa (Mike) Rumpee and son Joe, Woodbury; MN sister & brother in law Joel and Judy Schmitz, Red Lake Falls, MN, sister in law; Han Laufman Chipley, FL, aunt; Phyllis Groven, Grand Forks, and many cousins.
Char is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother in law: Ken Laufman, many aunts and uncles, and stepson Scott Spieker..
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Cat’s Cradle, Moorhead American Legion or a charity of your choice.
Private Memorial Service: Saturday, May 9, 2020, at West Funeral Home in West Fargo.
Public Visitation: 6 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 8th at West Funeral Home.
Interment: Fargo National Cemetery
