Carole Ann Turchin, age 77, died Wednesday, March 25, 2026, peacefully at home. Carole was born March 31, 1948, in Rugby, ND to Frank & Ramona (Whitman) Sattler.
She grew up in Rugby and Garrison, ND – graduating from Rugby Public School in 1966. As a teenager, she loved riding horses, music, playing the piano, and working as a candy striper at the Rugby hospital. After high school, she was united in marriage to Richard Voeller and, in 1970, they welcomed a daughter, Dawn Marie. On July 13, 1972, she married Frank Turchin and made their home in Casselton, ND.
While living in Casselton, she shared her love of music while working at the Jay Rann Music store until it closed in 1979. She was an active bowler and bowled on a weekly league for several years. She spent countless hours volunteering for the Perry Center in Fargo, where she collected and organized clothes and supplies for the young mothers and their babies who received counseling and support through the organization.
On July 18, 1981, Frank and Carole welcomed another daughter, Sharlene Elaine Turchin. Sharlene was a miracle, a gift, and incredibly loved by her family. Frank and Carole moved to Fargo 1991 where Carole worked at the NDSU library. A lifelong and avid reader, working in a library could not have been a more perfect fit.
She was kind, generous, loved animals of every kind and pampered not only her own many cats over the years but also the cats she fostered through a local humane society.
Carole loved her grandsons most of all. She was incredibly proud of each one of them and in her eyes, they were all pretty much practically perfect. She worried about them, prayed for them, and her biggest concern was always that they would know and follow Jesus.
Her faith, especially in recent years, was incredibly important to her and is what gave her the peace and strength to get through the many hard and extenuating health issues she struggled with on a daily basis.
Carole is survived by her husband of 53 years, Frank Turchin; her daughter and favorite son-in-law, Dawn & Keith Samuels of Wahpeton, ND; three grandchildren, Chris (Cambria) Samuels of Fargo, ND, Isaac (Amelia) Samuels of Bethel, AK, and Colin (Erica) Samuels of Grafton, ND; a great-granddaughter, Vivian Joy Samuels; two brothers, Bruce (Candy) Sattler of Gladston, ND and Doug (Theresa) Sattler of Fargo, ND; and several much loved nieces and nephews.
Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Ramona: a brother, Dale Sattler; a sister, Elaine Goll; a niece, Janna (Goll) Schill; and her precious daughter, Sharlene, who she is now eternally reunited with in heaven.
